Cricket Not English After All – WTF?

March 1st, 2009 by admin

Research by, yes you guessed it, mad Aussiea claims that is was not the English you invented the game of cricket. The Telegraph quotes Aussie Paul Campbell, of the department of English and theatre at the Australian National University, in Canberra, as saying that he has uncovered a reference to the sport in a 1533 poem, attributed to John Skelton, a popular poet and playwright of the day, in which he links it to immigrants from Flanders, in modern day Belgium, France and Holland.

What next! Will another Aussie researcher tell us that fish ‘n’ chips were invented in Melbourne or that Football was invented in China. It seems to me this is just sour grapes from the Aussies to wind up us Brits just before the Ashes.

Sod Off!
