World Cup 2010 Predictions and Preview

If you want an underdog pick for the World Cup 2010 I would say the USA have an outside shot at winning it. At odds of up to 60 to 1 you can get USA at a really good price, which could make for some excitement if they were to advance to the later rounds of the knockout rounds. The USA should have a good chance of advancing out of their group C with Slovenia and Algeria being two teams they are rated higher than (England is in their group and are almost a lock to advance).

Aussie tennis player Lleyton Hewitt has caused quiet a stir with his latests comments. He believes that the game has sunk to its lowest point in the country, saying that there was little cause for optimism in player development.

“Right at the moment it’s at its lowest point, I think. In terms of players coming through we don’t have a lot at the moment,” The Age quoted Hewitt, as saying.

“We’re looking at guys ranked 250 to 400 in the world, possibly getting a gold jacket to play Davis Cup, and that’s scraping the barrel. We’ve really got to try and make a change, and the best way comes back to the coaching,” he added.

Hewitt also stated that too much emphasis had been placed on irrelevant junior results, not enough had been done to involve respected senior figures in local coaching roles.

“I think we have struggled to make the transition from juniors to seniors. I think we emphasize junior results ways too much. I qualified for the Australian Open when I was 15 (years old) in the seniors,” Hewitt said.

A thrilling game was ended by Sidney Crosby’s extra-time strike which secured Canada the final gold medal of the Games after a dramatic 3-2 win over the United States in the men’s ice hockey. Canada seemed to have the match won until Zach Parise’s slotted finish forced extra time with just 24 seconds to go. Canada though were not to be denied!

The 18,000 crowd at the Canada Hockey Place watched on nervously as Crosby, the 22-year-old seized his opportunity.

“Our team worked so unbelievably hard. This was really tough, especially when they got the goal late in regulation. But we came out in overtime and this is just an unbelievable feeling.”

Canadian coach Mike Babcock added: “To do it at home with these guys is special.
