Make Or Break Game For Liverpool

January 20th, 2010 by admin

Liver Boss Rafa Benitez has admitted that the game against Tottenham will make or break Liverpool’s season. Victory for Liverpool would send them within a point of fourth-placed Spurs in the battle for a Champions League slot. Defeat would leave Benitez’s boys seven points off the pace, The Sun reports.

Benitez said: “We all know how important it is for us to win. There’s a big difference between being one point behind and seven. If Tottenham win, it will give them a buzz and a lift. They’ll have confidence.”

“But if we beat them we’ll be in a good position. We just have to work hard, show the character we did at Stoke and it’ll be easier to get the three points. If we can, it will be a totally different situation. So we will win and not consider the other options. We’re confident,” he added.

Federer On Fire!

January 19th, 2010 by admin

Roger Federer looked in top form as he eased into the Australian Open final destroying Wilfred Tsonga 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, in what can only be described as a one sided game.

“It is always difficult to play top players, sometimes it plays out the way you want it to and sometimes you have to work a lot harder,” The Guardian quoted Federer, as saying.

“It was just so important to win that first set and get that good start. I thought it was quite intense early, but maybe he was more fatigued mentally than physically, I think that showed near the end,” he added.

Federer will now play Andy Murray in the final.

New Mongoose Cricket Bat

January 19th, 2010 by admin

A new cricket bat called “The Mongoose” developed by Marcus Codrington Fernandez, could revolutionise the way Twenty20 cricket is played in the near future, many believe. The bat consists of a pygmy blade with a long handle, and is seen as the single most radical change to cricket equipment since way back in 1771.

The theory is that the wood at the top of the bat is wasted in Twenty20 cricket, as there was not a great deal of need for the back-foot defence. Instead the splice is integrated into the handle and the weight shifts down the bat, so much so that even yorkers that hit the toe of the bat can be hit for four.

Khan To Fight Hatton?

January 18th, 2010 by admin

Amir Khan has shocked the boxing world by singing with Oscar De La Hoyas Golden Boy Promotions. This paves the way for a British super-fight with Ricky Hatton, who has split with long-time promoter Frank Warren. Khan was uppeat about the singing saying,

“I know that together they will be the right team to help me continue my career as an elite fighter and to expand my fan base to the United States and around the world,” The Sun quoted him as saying further.

“I’m ready to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime and know that Golden Boy will help me accomplish these goals,” he said.

Fight legend and president of Golden Boy, De La Hoya said: “Amir Khan is one of the most talented fighters in the world at any weight. That talent, combined with his charismatic and out-going personality, makes him a promoter’s dream and I feel will one day lead him to being the face of boxing.”

Benitez Under Pressure

January 17th, 2010 by admin

It seems now that Benitez has lost the support of the fans if a recent poll is to believed. The poll that has been running since Liverpools disastrous FA Cup defeat by Championship strugglers Reading, has revealed that a staggering 73 per cent of the clubs fans want manger Rafa Benitez to be booted out.

Many feel that if Leverpool don’t claim a top four position in the league then Benitez will be sacked.

However, Benitez has vowed to fight on, and said: “Everyone knows the team is not playing at the level it can. When we lose, everyone loses – the fans, the players, the staff. I can understand the fans’ frustrations, but we feel the same. We want to win for them.”

“As for my future, all I will say is that my future is against Stoke – I have to be ready for the next game,” he added.

Owen Will Get More Games

January 16th, 2010 by admin

Fegie has opened the door for Michael Owen to try and regain a World Cup shirt by stating that he will get more first-team opportunities in the coming weeks.

Capello has already stated that those who want to be selected for the World Cup squad must be playing first team football so Owen must see this as perhaps his final chance to fight for a place in the squad.

“I haven’t used Michael for the last two or three games, but he needs the games and we are going to try and solve that problem because his training performances are still very good. I have no problems with him – it is just the blend of your strikers. Sometimes playing with one striker, like against Birmingham last Saturday, suits us with the strength we have in midfield,’ The Telegraph quoted Ferguson, as saying.

“So, it’s a matter of choice at the moment, but Michael is not out of the equation at all. He will come into it. We like to see Rooney through the middle, though, and I think his goalscoring form has been excellent this season,” he added.

Ferguson further said that Owen is one of the best forwards available in the country.

“Michael is a last defender player. There is no one better at that, his movement and positional sense is excellent, so it is a difficult choice to play two through the middle in the modern-day game,” Ferguson said.

“I think there will be times when we change the pattern of the team, though. Wayne can’t play every game anyway and, if you want to retain his freshness for the important games ahead, then you sometimes need to make changes,” he added.

Torres Tells Owners To Buy Big

January 15th, 2010 by admin

Liverpool FC Fernando Torres has issued a stark warning to Liverpool’s owners that they must the cash to buy better players, following Wednesday night’s shocking FA Cup loss against Reading.

Torres has diverted the spotlight firmly on George Gillett and Tom Hicks and away from the manager, in a stark appraisal of the club’s fortunes, said: “It’s now the owners’ turn. They have to sign players so that this does not happen again.”

“If we want to compete with Chelsea and Manchester United, we need a much, much more complete squad,” he added.

His remarks make his position clear to all that if Liverpool don’t get out the check book he will leave.

Rafa Benitez Liverpool Future In Doubt

January 14th, 2010 by admin

Things don’t look at all good for Rafa Benitez at Liverpool. Already suffering a poor season things plummeted to a new low after his club crashed out of the FA Cup after losing to Championship strugglers Reading 2-1.

Benitez as always has vowed to fight on, despite Liverpool being ousted out of the Champions League, Premier League title race and now the FA Cup.

“For three months everybody was talking about me, and it doesn’t matter if you play a strong team or not. Lots of people have spoken about me, but I have to just keep moving forward and working hard. How do I cope with the talking and the pressure? I try to do the best I can,” The Sun quoted Benitez, as saying.

“It’s not the best season. Sometimes you have bad moments and sometimes better moments. At this time we have to carry on and be ready for the next game. We have to be focused,” he added.

Campbell Set For Arsenal Return

January 13th, 2010 by admin

As we suggested many months ago it looks like 35 year old Sol Campbell is about to return to Arsenal. Campbell is ready to complete a shock return to Arsenal after stating that he is still good enough for Premier League football.

Campbell said: “I’ve missed it and I’ve a gut feeling this is the right move.”

“I do believe I can contribute. I really have my confidence and fitness back,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
