Published statistics prove that the world’s leading tennis players are no match compared to Hawk-Eye as judges in contentious line calls at the Australian Open.
During Thursday’s play male players had made 286 challenges at Melbourne Park. Of those, only 89 – or 31.12 per cent – were successful. Hawk-Eye said the players were wrong 197 times.
It is a similar case when we look at the female stats. A total of 171 challenges have been made so far, with just 47 – or 27.49 per cent – successful.
Several top players including notably Federer are known to detest the system. Federer ranks second on the list of the most unsuccessful male players using the system. His 19 challenges have returned only five overrules in his favour.
andy Murray got two of 17 right. Gilles Simon five of 18.
Dokic (six of 15), Jankovic (three of 12) and Alize Cornet and Daniela Hantuchova (one of nine) also got it badly wrong.
Safina has been right only seven of 17 times.

Reports suggest that Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is may be thinking of selling the Chelsea football club to Gulf Arabs. According to The Times, representatives of the oligarch have travelled to Saudi Arabia and Dubai to elicit interest in the club. The meeting was with members of the Saudi royal family. i have to say though that there has been no evidence so far of a potential buyer.
One source said: “Abramovich’s team have been out in the Middle East sounding out what interest there is in buying the club.”
Chelsea have trashed these claims insisting last night that Abramovich was still fully committed to the club on which he has lavished hundreds of millions of pounds.

Former English football legend Gary Lineker was spotted virtually attached to his lover Danielle Bux during their visit to a Dubai beach.
From reports printed in a UK newspaper it seems Lineker, 48, was seen spending most of the day cosying up to 29-year-old bikini-clad Bux.
The besotted former footie was even seen taking pictures of her as she sat reading on a beach chair.
To be honest I can’t really blame him as she is a real looker!

Chealsea have fined Didier Drogba £100,000 for recent outbursts he has made about the club. The whining Ivory Coast striker has angered both team-mates and Blues officials by claiming he did not get the support he deserves, claimed The Sun newspaper.
Drogba main gripe with Chealsea is that the club failed to support him when his grandmother died this year although he admitted also he did not rush back from his knee injury plus also criticised manager Phil Scolari’s team selection.
It is clear his comments have infuriated Scolari and chief executive Peter Kenyon hence the £100,000 fine which in real terms is less than a weeks wages. What a hard life top UK footballers have!

Lets start with some great news! Cricket columnist Peter Roebuck has stated that the Australian cricket team has forgotten what it means to win. What great news for the start of a new year! He went on to say that although Australia still indeed do have some fine players such as Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey, Roebuck believes that foolish tactics since the Nagpur Test and the bad ill-advised response to criticism from retired players, has left Australian cricket at the cross-roads.
All I can say is long may this continue so England gave Australia a sound beating and reclaim the Ashes.
